Felt Food

For our Church Relief Society Meeting, formerly known as Enrichment, I was asked to give a tutorial on felt food making. I thought that this project would be quite the undertaking, but in fact, it was really simple and easy. The making of felt foods became a hit because moms were tired of cleaning out their toy box during recalls of lead-contaminated toys. Many moms worried about plastic toys' safety and environmental impact, so they created and stirred up interest in homemade play food. People with little or no sewing experience can make felt food; there are fabric versions of carrots, peas, corn, etc. that can be sewn by hand with one or two basic stitches. Below is one of the better websites where you can get patterns or simply ideas for felt food. Once you have an idea, you can let your imagination run wild.

These felt foods are very inexpensive to make. I think these little play foods will be great when we start teaching Brooklyn different foods and what is healthy and good for her body. Right now she just appreciates something else to chew on. :)
